Ben Santos finished his four-part series on God’s grace. Today’s text was Romans 8:18-30 and Revelation 21:1-5. Ben described this broken time we’re living in now, what some theologians call the in-between time, the time between when Jesus came and when his kingdom will be restored. Now we deal with pain and suffering, with limitations of our physical bodies, with the sinful desires of our hearts. We eagerly await the new heaven and new earth. When it comes, all will be restored to as it was before the fall. We will live in perfect unity with God, and we will see him face to face. Until then, it is enough for us to know that that God’s grace is sufficient for us (2 Corinthians 12:9), and our hope is anchored in Paul’s words from 2 Corinthians 4:16-18: “16 That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. 17 For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! 18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.”
We hope to see you next Sunday morning for Dave’s return from sabbatical.
